Karl Boyes (born November 4, 1982 in Bradford ) is an English pool player .

Career

His first major international success was reaching the semi-finals at the 9-Ball World Cup in 2007 . In 2008 he consolidated his place in the extended world elite, among other things by taking part in the semi-finals on the Euro Tour in Sindelfingen . In 2009 he made it to the second round of the US Open and a second place at the Costa del Sol Open in Benalmádena .

In 2010 at the latest he made his final breakthrough to the top of the world when he first won the team world championship in Hanover with Great Britain and a little later in the final against Niels Feijen the individual world championship in 8-ball . He then took part in the World Pool Masters for the first time and was eliminated in the round of 32. On the Euro Tour he reached his second final at the German Open 2010 , but was defeated by the German Sascha Tege 6-8 in the final. In Austria, however, he finally won his first Euro Tour tournament with the Austria Open by beating Nick van den Berg in the final . In 2013 Boyes was invited for the second time to the World Pool Masters , where he was eliminated in the round of 16.

In January 2014 Boyes finished fifth at the World Chinese 8-Ball Masters . In April 2014 he managed to reach the final of the North Cyprus Open , which he lost 4: 9 to Ralf Souquet . In November 2014 Boyes achieved his best result so far at the World Pool Masters when he made it to the quarterfinals . At the 10-ball world championship in 2015 he reached the sixteenth finals, as in 2011 . On the Euro Tour in the same year he came third at the Italian Open and the German Open . At the World Pool Masters 2015 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Liu Haitao . In October 2015 he reached the final of the US Open and lost 6:13 to Cheng Yu-hsuan from Taiwan .

In 2014 he won the World Cup of Pool with Darren Appleton . In the final they defeated the Dutch Nick van den Berg and Niels Feijen 10: 9 and were the first Englishmen to win the World Cup of Pool. In 2015 they lost to the Taiwanese Ko Pin-yi and Chang Yu-Lung in the semi-finals .

Boyes was part of the European team at the Mosconi Cup four times ( 2010 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 ), which each won.

Boyes now lives in Blackpool .
