Ronato "Ronnie" Alcano (born July 27, 1972 in Calamba City , Laguna ) is a Filipino pool player . He was a 9-ball world champion in 2006 and an 8-ball world champion in 2007 .

Career

singles

After he had won five tournaments on the Joss Tour in 2002 and finished seventh at the US Open , he was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 2003 9-Ball World Championship . In June 2005 he won a tournament on the Asian 9-Ball Tour for the first time with an 11: 6 win over Yang Ching-shun . A month later he made it into the final round of the 9-ball World Cup for the first time , where he was eliminated in the round of 64 against Thorsten Hohmann . At the Southeast Asian Games in 2005 he won the rotation in the final against Antonio Gabica the gold medal in the singles and together with Leonardo Andam gold in the doubles.

In 2006 Alcano reached seventh place at the North American Open and 23rd place at the World Open on the International Pool Tour . At the US Open 2006 he was ninth. In November 2006 he made it into the final at the 9-ball world championship taking place in his home country after victories against Efren Reyes , defending champions Wu Chia-ching and Li Hewen , in which he defeated the German Ralf Souquet with 17:11.

In March 2007 Alcano reached the final of the 8-Ball World Cup and won there 11: 8 against his compatriot Dennis Orcollo . A little later he was invited to the World Pool Masters for the first time , but was eliminated in the first round by Fabio Petroni . In August 2007 he was defeated by the Taiwanese Yang Ching-shun with 10:12 in his second Asian Tour final. At the US Open 2007 he reached the final, but lost there against Shane van Boening . A few days after he was eliminated in the round of 64 against eventual world champion Daryl Peach at the 2007 9-Ball World Cup , Alcano won the World 9-Ball Challenge . In December 2007, he won the 8-ball individual competition at the Southeast Asian Games by beating the Singaporean Tay Choon Kiat in the final .

In April 2008 Alcano moved into the final of the 8-ball world championship , but was now defeated by Ralf Souquet with 9:13. He also reached the final again at the US Open, which he lost to Mika Immonen from Finland . In November 2008 he lost the final of the Japan Open against Immonen. In the Quezon City Invasion in December 2008, he had to admit defeat in the final Rodney Morris .

In September 2009 Alcano won the World Classic Open 8-Ball Event . In November 2009 he first took part in the 10-ball World Cup, where he was eliminated in the round of 64 against Imran Majid . At the 2009 Southeast Asian Games , he won the gold medal in 8-ball singles in the final against Gandy Valle .

In April 2010 Alcano reached the round of 16 of the 8-ball World Cup . After he was eliminated in the preliminary round at the 2010 World Pool Masters , he made it to the quarter-finals of the 2010 9-Ball World Cup , where he lost to the eventual finalist Kuo Po-Cheng . In October 2010 he won the Pattaya 9-Ball Invitational, in November the Star Billiards 10-Ball Championship. A few days later he was ninth at the Japan Open 2010.

In January 2011 Alcano finished second in the bank-pool competition and ninth in 9-ball at the Derby City Classic . After he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Darren Appleton at the 8-Ball World Cup , he finished fifth at the Beijing Open. In May 2011, he reached the round of 32 at the 10-Ball World Cup . A month later, he finished third at the China Open . At the 9-Ball World Championship in 2011 he moved to the final after victories against Chang Yu-Lung , Tōru Kuribayashi and Dennis Orcollo, in which he was defeated by the Japanese Yukio Akakariyama 11:13.

At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2012 , Alcano was eliminated in the round of 64 against Jundel Mazon . In October 2012 he won the Chuck Markulis Memorial and the Championship Cloth Pro Classic before finishing fifth at the US Open. At the Derby City Classic 2013, Alcano was third in the Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge and eighth in the 9-Ball competition. At the US Bar Box Championship 2013, he finished fourth in the 10-ball. In September 2014, he finished ninth in the Manny Pacquiao Cup .

At the 10-Ball World Cup in 2015 Alcano reached the round of 64. In November 2015, after 2008, he made it into the final of the Japan Open for the second time , in which he was defeated by his compatriot Johann Chua 7:11.

Alcano has taken part in the World Cup of Pool three times so far , each time forming a team with Dennis Orcollo. After reaching the semifinals in 2009, they made it to the finals in 2010, losing 5:10 to the Chinese Li Hewen and Fu Jianbo . In 2011 they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

With the Philippine national team he was runner- up in 2010 .
