Fabio Petroni (born March 30, 1972 in Rome ) is an Italian pool player .
Career
In 1993 he became Italian champion for the first time. He has been a professional since 1998; which was also the most successful year of his sporting career so far. He finished second in the World Pool League and was vice European champion at the 1998 European Championship in 9-ball . At the end of the year he also represented Europe at the 1998 Mosconi Cup , his only appointment to the European Mosconi Cup team so far. In 1999 he achieved his best result at a 9-ball World Cup in Alicante, Spain, with a place in the quarter-finals. In 2001 he won his first title on the Euro Tour in Hull . The second - and so far the last - followed in 2006Spain Open in Málaga . In 2005 he made it to the quarter-finals of the 8-Ball World Cup - his best result so far at this tournament. At the 2015 European Championship , he won the bronze medal in the 10-ball after being eliminated in the semi-finals against Francisco Díaz-Pizarro .
Petroni has taken part in the World Cup of Pool nine times so far , reaching the quarter-finals with partner Angelo Millauro in 2006 . In 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 and 2013 his partner was Bruno Muratore , but the duo were eliminated quite early (2007 in the first round; 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 in the round of 16). Only in 2012 did they reach the quarter-finals, which were lost to the eventual finalists Poland. In 2014 he formed the Italian team with Daniele Corrieri , which was eliminated in the first round against the French Stephan Cohen and Alex Montpellier .
Petroni is also a good trick shot player. In 2003 and 2005 he was second in Sunderland and Doncaster at the Trickshot World Championship .
His nickname on the billiards scene is Fabulous .
