The WPA pool team world championship (officially: World Team Championship ) is a pool tournament in which the world champion of the national teams is determined. It has been held every two years by the World Pool Billiard Association since 2010 . The reigning world champion is China.

history

The pool team world championship was held for the first time in 2010 as part of the ABF trade fair in Hanover . The British team won the tournament in the final against the Philippines, the host Germany's two teams were eliminated in the last sixteen and quarter-finals. In 2012 the Team World Cup took place in Beijing . The Taiwanese team became world champions by beating Japan. In 2014 in Beijing, the second Chinese team became world champions in the final against the Philippines. With one world title and two third places, China is the most successful nation in the team world championship. The best result in Germany was reaching the quarter-finals in 2010 and 2014. Switzerland achieved their best result with the quarter-finals in 2010, Austria in 2014 with the last sixteen. In 2010, the Liechtenstein team did not get beyond the preliminary round in their only participation to date.

In 2010, 42 teams took part in the Team World Cup. These initially played in the double knockout system until 16 teams were still in the tournament. These continued the tournament in the knockout system . 24 teams have been taking part since 2012. These are divided into six groups of four teams each and play against each other in the league system . The group first and second as well as the four best group thirds qualify for the final round in which the tournament is ended in the knockout system.

The teams at the Team World Cup consist of four to six players, including at least one woman. A match consists of two games in each of the disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball and 10-ball . The 8-ball and 9-ball games are played in singles, the 10-ball games are played as Scotch doubles . One 9-ball and one 10-ball game must be played by a woman. For each game won, the corresponding team receives one point. In the group stage, a team receives three points for a match won and one point for a draw, in accordance with the three-point rule . If there is a tie in the final round, the winner will be determined in the shoot-out.
