Masaaki Tanaka ( Japanese 田中 雅明 , Tanaka Masaaki ; born June 25, 1974 , Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese pool player .

Career

In 2001 Masaaki Tanaka reached 13th place at the US Open and 17th place at the Tokyo 9-Ball Event. At the Japan Open in 2005 he was third. In 2006 he reached fifth place in the third tournament of the Asian 9-Ball Tour , and in 2007 he was fifth in the Japan Open. After finishing 17th in 2008, he again reached third place in 2009. In 2010 Tanaka lost to the eventual world champion Karl Boyes in the sixteenth finals of the 8-ball World Cup . At the 9-Ball World Cup 2010 he was eliminated in the round of 32 against Jason Klatt . At the Japan Open 2013 Tanaka lost to his compatriot Naoyuki Ōi in the round of 32 . In June 2014 Tanaka was eliminated in the round of 64 against Hayato Hijikata at the 9-Ball World Cup . At the Japan Open 2014 lost again the round of 32 against Ōi. In 2015 he was eliminated in the round of 64.

Tanaka has participated twice in the World Cup of Pool . In 2006 he reached the round of 16 with Satoshi Kawabata , and in 2014 he was eliminated in the first round with Hayato Hijikata.

With the Japanese national team Tanaka took part in the team world championship twice. There he reached the round of 16 in 2010 and the semi-finals in 2014 .
