Qanybek Kalkomanuly Saghyndyqow ( Kazakh Қаныбек Калкоманұлы Сағындықов , Kyrgyz Каныбек Калкоманович Сагындыков Kanybek Kalkomanowitsch Sagyndykow , English transcription: Kanybek Sagyndykov8. August 1983 in Frunze ) is a former Kyrgyz billiard players , who spent most of his career for Kazakhstan took.

With three world championship titles ( 2001 , 2004 , 2007 ) he is the record world champion in the free pyramid discipline and, after Kanybek Sagynbajew, the second most successful player in individual world championships in Russian billiards .

Life

Saghyndyqow was born in 1983 in Frunze, today's Bishkek , where he grew up. In the spring of 2000, he moved to the Kazakh Almaty , where he initially in the house of the president of Kazakhstan's Billiard Association, Angsary Qaranejew , lived and shared with his son, the eventual champions Älichan Qaranejew , trained.

Career

1990–2002: beginnings and first world championship title

In his youth, Saghyndyqow achieved first successes at regional level in his native Bishkek in the 1990s . There he was discovered by the president of the Kazakh billiards association Angsary Qaranejew , who invited him to move to Almaty and henceforth to compete for Kazakhstan .

In July 2001 he moved to the World Cup in Vilnius after defeating Sergey Ermakov and Rustam Usmonov , among others , in the final, in which he became world champion with a 7-4 win against the Ukrainian Jaroslaw Wynokur . At 17 years, 11 months and 21 days, he still holds the record as the youngest world champion in the free pyramid discipline .

A year later in Willingen he reached the quarter-finals and was eliminated by Aslan Busojew . In the same year he reached the semifinals of the European Championships , in which he lost to Jaroslaw Wynokur.

2003–2005: Second world title

At the 2003 World Cup he was eliminated again in the quarterfinals, this time against the Latvians Māris Vartiks . A month later he moved into the final of the Asian Cup in Almaty, in which he had to admit defeat to the then record world champion Yevgeny Stalew with 2: 7. In July 2003 he also reached the final of the Baltic Cup and prevailed against Jaroslaw Wynokur 7-3.

In May 2004 Saghyndyqow was a 5: 1-final victory against Oleksandr Palamar European champion . A few weeks later he also won the Asian Cup , this time in the final against Vladimir Petuschkow (7: 4). In the Caucasus Cup, however, he was eliminated in the semifinals against Serhiy Petrasch . At the end of the year he became world champion for the second time. At the World Cup in Moscow he defeated Seymur Məmmədov and Pawel Mechowow , among others , before beating Ukrainian Oleh Matschtakow 7: 4 in the final .

In early 2005, Saghyndyqow won the final against Yevgeny Stalev (7: 4) in Minsk for the first time in a European Cup . At the second European Cup tournament of the year he was eliminated in the round of 32 against Yevgeny Stalew. In May 2005 he won the first edition of the Kremlin Cup . In the final against Kirill Anishchenko , he turned a 4-6 deficit to a 7-6 win. After he was eliminated at the EM in the quarter-finals against Seymur Məmmədov and at the Asian Cup in the second round, he won the Ukrainian Independence Cup in August 2005 with a 7-3 final victory over Artem Matvejtschuk . On the other hand, the Caucasus Cup ended for him in the round of 16 and in the final tournament of the European Cup he was eliminated after a 1: 5 opening defeat to Kirill Anishchenko in the round of 32. At the end of the year he reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Almaty, where he lost again to Kirill Anishchenko.

2006–2007: Third world championship title

At the EM 2006 Saghyndyqow won the bronze medal after he had only just lost 4-5 in the semifinals against the eventual European champion Oleksandr Palamar. In his two European Cup appearances in 2006, however, he suffered early defeats. In July 2006 he moved into the final of the Asian Cup , in which he lost to Kirill Anishchenko 5-7. In October, the World Cup in the Dynamic Pyramid discipline was followed by another final participation, this time he lost 3: 7 to Vidjai Drangoi from Moldova . At the end of the year he reached the quarter-finals of the Free Pyramid World Cup , in which he was defeated by the Russian Yuri Pashchinsky .

In 2007 Saghyndyqow started with his second European Cup victory. At the opening tournament in Minsk, he prevailed in the final against Jewhen Talow with 5: 1. At the following tournament in Wolschski , however, he was eliminated in the round of the last 64 against Anatoly Krylov . In March 2007 he formed together with Irina Tjan and Älichan Qaranejew the Kazakh national team, by a 3: 1-final win against Russia team world champion was. 2008–2012: relegation, time out and return

In early 2008 Saghyndyqow reached the quarter-finals of the Combined Pyramid World Cup , in which he was eliminated against Pawel Mechowow. In April 2008 he won a tournament of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta series for the second time in Nizhny Novgorod with a 5-3 final victory over Pavel Kuzmin . A little later he was together with Anel Bekbosunowa and Älichan Qaranejew after a final defeat against Belarus vice world champion in the team. At the Asian Open 2008 he was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual tournament winner Älichan Qaranejew. Defending champion Saghyndyqow did not take part in the Free Pyramid World Cup 2008 in Saint Petersburg in November .

In 2009 Saghyndyqow played only a few tournaments. After he had reached the round of 16 at the Combined Pyramid World Cup , which he lost to defending champion Älichan Qaranejew, he was eliminated at the Asian Open and at the Free Pyramid World Cup in the round of 32. In the same year he had stopped playing billiards for a time and was considering retiring from his career. The reason for this, in addition to its declining results, is said to have been the low prize money in Russian billiards.

Nonetheless, Saghyndyqow took part in the World Cup of the Combined Pyramid again at the beginning of 2010 , in which, after defeating defending champion Aues Jeljubajew in the preliminary round , he moved into the sixteenth finals, but lost there to Ildar Mingasitdinow . Later in the year he reached the round of 16 at the Asian Open and the quarter-finals at the Billiardstars invitation tournament .

In February 2011, he won the bronze medal at the Combined Pyramid World Cup , after having not made it past the round of 16 at three World Cups in a row. In the semifinals he had to admit defeat to eventual world champion Nikita Liwada 4: 5. He also made it to the semi-finals at the Asian Open 2011 , this time losing to the Kazakh Dauren Urynbajew . In October 2011 he played a tournament outside of Kazakhstan for the first time in two years with the Free Pyramid World Cup in Kiev . There he was eliminated in the round of 64 against Alexander Muravyov . At the end of the year he achieved his first tournament victory in over three years at the Champions Cup in Astana when he defeated the Ukrainian Yaroslav Tarnovezkyj 7: 5 in the final.

In 2012 Saghyndyqow took part in more tournaments again. At the beginning of the year he won the bronze medal at the Kazakh Championship in the Combined Pyramid after a semi-final defeat against Jernar Tschimbajew . A little later he lost at the Combined Pyramid World Cup in Bishkek in the round of 32 against Älibek Omarow . He was also eliminated early in the following tournaments, such as the Free Pyramid European Championship (last 76) and the Asian Open (last 32). In October 2012, however, he won his fifth and final World Cup medal. After a year off, Saghyndyqow became Kazakh runner-up in the Combined Pyramid in March 2016. In the final he had to admit defeat Dauren Urynbajew 2: 6. A few days later the Combined Pyramid World Cup took place in Almaty . After an opening win against the Georgian Dawid Pipija Saghyndyqow was eliminated in the round of 32 with 2: 6 against Konstantin Zoi . After the World Cup, he ended his career.

Style of play

Saghyndyqow mostly played very low-risk and defensive. In addition, he was considered to be extremely nerve-racking and calculating. His less spectacular defensive style of play meant that he was unpopular with some fans.
