Henry Knute Svenson

Henry Knute Svenson (also Henry Knut Svenson ; * 1897 , † 1983 ) was an American botanist of Swedish descent. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Svenson ".

Live and act

From 1920 Svenson was an assistant at the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University in Boston . From 1922 to 1925 he was employed as a teacher of biology at Union College, from 1925 to 1927 as an assistant professor of biology. He received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1928. From 1928 to 1929 he worked as an assistant at the Gray Herbarium before moving to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 1930 , where he was initially assistant to the curator and from 1936 to 1946 as curator. From 1946 to 1952 he was the curator and chairman of the Forestry and General Botany Department of the American Museum of Natural History . As a botanist for the United States Geological Survey , he worked from 1954 to 1966.

During his work as a botanist he took part in an expedition to the Galapagos Islands (1930) and was co-author of a guide to the flora of Cape Cod (1979).

Taxonomic honor

1936 was genus Sven Sonia Moldenke from the family of the iron herb plants (Verbenaceae) named in his honor. Today the name is a synonym for the genus Chascanum .
