Alex Lely (born May 24, 1973 in The Hague ) is a Dutch pool player .

His greatest success was winning the 2005 European Pool Billiards Championship in the 8-ball and 9-ball disciplines . Already in 2000 he made it endlessly to the finals in discipline 14 and 1 at the European Championships , but lost to Oliver Ortmann .

In addition, he won the World Pool Masters in 1999 , a year later he made it to the final again, but lost to Ralf Souquet . He has won a total of three Euro Tour tournaments (1999 in Neuwied , 2005 in Monfalcone and the Netherlands Open 2006 in Weert ).

In 1999 and 2005 he represented Europe at the Mosconi Cup , but Team USA won both tournaments. In 2008 he was in his third participation as a non-playing team captain and won the cup. In 2009 he was again captain, but this time the cup went to Team USA again.

His nickname in the billiards scene is The Plague from the Hague .
