Whale head-like

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The whale-head-like (Cetomimoidea or Cetomimiformes) are a superfamily or order of marine deep-sea fish. They live in the deep sea of all tropical and temperate seas. They have been detected at depths of over 3,500 meters. The taxon is controversial and paraphyletic . In the latest revision of the bony fish system, it is no longer used and the families assigned to the whale-head-like are placed in the order of the mucous-head-like (Beryciformes), which only then becomes monophyletic .
