Gibberichthys is a genus of deep sea fish from the family of the beak fish (Gibberichthyidae) within the order of the mucous head-like species, comprisingonly two species . They live in the tropical , western Atlantic , the western Indian Ocean and the western and southwestern Pacific at depths of 400 to 1000 meters. Young fish live near the surface to a depth of 50 meters. The genus is only known from a few captured specimens.

The fish are a maximum of 12 centimeters long. Their body is covered by cycloid scales; along the lateral line organ they have 28 to 34 scales. Adult animals have 5 to 8 isolated hard rays in front of the soft radial dorsal fin, and 4 to 5 isolated hard rays in front of the soft anal fin . The tail stalk is also spiked. Each fin has about 7 to 9 soft rays. Their pelvic fins are small and have a hard and 5 to 6 soft rays. The swim bladder is partially filled with fat. The number of vertebrae is 28 to 31.

The larvae of Gibberichthys pumilus have been described as the genus Kasidoron , for which the family Kasidoridae was established.
