final
The Englishman Tony Meo had already won the tournament in 1981 and was therefore only the second player after John Spencer who had made it to the finals in two editions since the first edition of the tournament in 1979. On his way to the final, he had clearly won against Warren King and later defeated John Virgo and Jimmy White each to three, so that he was in the final. While Virgo had defeated defending champion Tony Knowles in a new edition of the previous year's final before he was eliminated , White had won one time in advance by white wash and one decider .
The second player in the final was the Australian John Campbell , who was only the third Australian in the final of this tournament after the victory of Ian Anderson in 1979 and after the final defeat of Eddie Charlton in 1982 . Charlton started the tournament with a clear win over Alex Higgins and continued his winning streak with a narrow win over local hero Eddie Charlton. After all, he made it into the final with the help of a 6-4 win over John Parrott .
There are no exact records of the finale itself. It is only known that Tony Meo played two Century Breaks of 134 and 103 points respectively during the game and ultimately won the game and the tournament with a 7-2 win. Since John Spencer could only win one final of his two finals, Meo is the only player who could win the Australian Masters twice.
