final

Tony Meo had already had a lot of success at the tournament last year, but had to admit defeat to eventual tournament winner Steve Davis 8: 9 in the semifinals . This year he met Davis again in the semifinals, but this time he was able to beat him 9: 7 and thus prevented his third finals at this tournament in a row. Before this game, Meo had largely no problems when he only had to give up eight frames before the semi-finals. In the final, he finally met Neal Foulds , who had started the tournament with a victory over his father Geoff , then had relatively clear defeated Ray Edmonds and Jimmy White and then with a narrow 9: 8 win over Mike Hallett for the final qualified.

Like the two semi-finals, the final was a close affair: At the beginning Meo was able to take a 3-1 lead, but Foulds was able to equalize immediately afterwards. During the next four frames, Meo took the lead twice and Foulds then equalized, before Foulds took the lead twice over the next four frames, but Meo was able to equalize again. With a score of 7: 7, Meo was able to take the lead again before he won 9: 7 with a 94 break in the 16th frame of the game.
