The 1985 BCE Canadian Masters was a professional snooker invitation tournament for the 1985/86 season . The new edition of the former Canadian Open (1974-1980) was held from October 29, 1985 to November 2, 1985 in the studios of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in the Canadian metropolis of Toronto . The winner was the Northern Irishman Dennis Taylor , who defeated the then loser Steve Davis 9: 5 in a new edition of the last World Cup final . The six-time world champion Ray Reardon played the highest break of the tournament with a 133 break.

The tournament was sponsored by table manufacturer BCE and had a prize pool of £ 47,500.

Tournament course
In contrast to the Canadian Open, only invited professional players took part in the Canadian Masters, whose number was limited to eight. The quarter-finals were played in the best of 9 frames mode , the semi-finals in the best of 15 frames mode and the final in the best of 17 frames mode .

In the final there was the encounter Steve Davis vs. Dennis Taylor one of the many new editions of the 1985 World Cup final , which Taylor won on the last black with 17:18.
As in the World Cup final, Davis quickly took the lead, he led 0: 3, before Taylor turned the game around with three Centurys and took a 5: 3 lead himself. After Davis came close to a frame, Taylor extended his lead to 7-4. Davis then won another frame before Taylor won the game and the tournament with a 58 and an 89 break.
