The 1992 Rothmans Grand Prix was a 1992/93 season snooker tournament held at Reading's Hexagon Theater from October 12-25 , 1992 . The tournament had been established in the south-east English city since 1984.
Stephen Hendry , who last won the tournament twice in a row, surprisingly lost his opening match against Tony Chappel . Irishman Ken Doherty faced Jimmy White in the final . The Englishman won just 10: 9 and won the tournament for the second time after 1986 .
Final round
64 players competed in the main tournament in Reading . The top 32 of the world rankings were set. The 32 players who had prevailed in the qualification were drawn to them.

qualification
568 players had registered for the Grand Prix. In the second year after the opening of the professional circuit, the record number of participants in the Grand Prix was set. On June 20, 1992, the qualifying rounds began and on September 24th, the 9th qualifying round was completed. There remained 32 players for the main tournament, who then made it to the top 32 of the world rankings in Reading .
