Event 3

The second event of the Strachan Challenge 1992/93 was a snooker tournament for the 1992/93 season , which was held from January 3 to 12, 1993. It was part of a series of three minor ranking tournaments that were held for the first time this season. At the tournaments there were points for the world rankings , but only barely a tenth of what was awarded at the established tournaments.

The first event was won by Joe Swail , who at least made it to the quarterfinals. In the finale, Troy Shaw and Nigel Bond met . Shaw was blatant underdog at number 121, the round of 16 at the Benson & Hedges Championship earlier in the season had been his best result so far. Bond, on the other hand, was world number ninth and thus the best-placed player in the tournament. At the 1990 Grand Prix he had already made it to the final. Nevertheless, Troy Shaw won clearly 9: 4. It was his only win and only final in his career.

Prize money / world ranking points

Prize money and points for the world rankings were the same in all three events of the Challenge. In the full ranked tournaments, the prize pool was around £ 150,000 and the winner's score was 3600.

Main tournament

The same number of players registered as in the first tournament, but there were 45 rejections. Thus, 303 participants played 6 qualifying rounds until the 32 participants in the main tournament were determined. The best players came in the last 128, but none of the top 8 in the world were represented. The game mode was the same for all three tournaments: Best of 9 up to the quarter-finals, Best of 11 in the semi-finals and the final Best of 17.
