Greg Coniglio (born September 30, 1970 in Manchester , England ) is an English referee of the snooker billiards variant .

Life

Greg Coniglio was born in Manchester, England and continues to live there. As a kid he saw players like Alex Higgins and Jimmy White on TV and thought, "I want to do that too", grabbed a cue and started playing. After a few initial successes he realized that he was not good enough to survive as a professional and decided to become a referee, but he is still active as a player.

His biggest success as a player was a 3-0 win over Paul Hunter , his highest break is a 127.

He passed his class 3 exam on September 12, 2001, has been directing professional games ever since and has been part of the Worldsnooker referee squad since the 2005/2006 season .

So far (December 2019) he has directed four finals of world ranking tournaments (2016 and 2018 the World Grand Prix, 2016 the English Open and 2019 the UK Championship. He also directed a semifinal, the 2015 UK Championship). In qualifying for the Australian Open 2013, he led the longest best of 9 game so far in Simon Bedford's 5-4 victory over Barry Pinches , which lasted seven hours and 29 minutes. So far (December 2019) he has led a maximum break .

As his most embarrassing experience, he cites the fact that he dropped the white ball during a qualifier in Prestatyn when he was supposed to clean it, but he felt sick that day. His biggest personal embarrassment in relation to snooker is that he had forgotten his cousin's wedding and there was a scheduling conflict with his refereeing, he was in charge of the game.

In addition to working at the table, snook referees also have tasks in the background. As markers , they control the scoreboards, keep the game record and, if necessary, help the table referee to restore the original game situation after a miss .
