final
From 1982 to 1984 Steve Davis had won the tournament three times in a row and was now in the final again for the first time. He was in top form and had won five of the last ten tournaments across all seasons. For Mike Hallett it was only the third participation. He'd reached three invitation tournament finals last season and lost all of them. The personal record also spoke with 12: 2 for the world number two, the last time the two dueled in a final at the Masters in 1988 , Hallett suffered the first to-zero defeat in tournament history.
This time it went well for Hallett from the start. Even at the mid-session break, he was in the lead and Davis was always behind the deficit. In the evening session Hallett was able to extend the lead even further and finally won with 10: 6. It was the fifth and final professional title for the Englishman and the third and final time that he could defeat Steve Davis.
Century breaks
Only twice did the players break more than 100 points in the 9 tournament games. Mike Hallett crowned his final victory with one of them . It was also the highest break, which earned him another £ 3,500 bonus.
