Franz Mürmann (born October 15, 1912 in Altenbeken ; † April 23, 1991 in Warburg ) was a German archivist , high school teacher and historian . 1964–1969 he was mayor of Warburg.

Life

He was the son of August Mürmann and his wife Gertrud, geb. Green weight. After leaving school, he first trained as a scientific archivist , then studied history , German and French and received his doctorate in 1938 at the University of Münster . During the Second World War he was known despite hemophilic predisposition soldier who fell into American captivity and spent some time working on cotton fields of the Midwest USA . After his return he married Ingeborg Rauer on June 4, 1949 in Bochum , with whom he had two daughters.

In 1951 he became a teacher at the Marianum grammar school in Warburg and was also responsible for the Warburg city ​​archive . He was also involved in setting up a historical museum in the Haus Stern building , which was built in 1340 and inaugurated in 1968. After his retirement, he also wrote works on the history of the region and published a two-volume work on the history of the town of Warburg, which was published in 1986 for the 950th anniversary of the town of Warburg. In 1988 the museum in the Stern and the city archive were modernized and significantly expanded.

politics

In 1959 Mürmann joined the Warburg city council for the CDU . Five years later he was elected mayor.

During his tenure, the city was declared a federal development site by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and connected to the federal motorway 44 . The railway line should be electrified and the Calden airport built in nearby Hesse .

Large new access roads were also built within the city. In 1968 the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new savings bank building. In the upper main street, a whole row of six historic buildings was replaced by new commercial buildings behind it, the associated house gardens along today's Josef-Wirmer-Straße were largely destroyed and replaced by parking spaces.

To improve the medical care of the district, a hospital association was founded in order to significantly expand the St. Petri Hospital with a new operating wing and an eight-story bed tower. For this purpose, Hüffertstrasse was to be relocated and the Schützenplatz, which served the fairground, and some house gardens were to be destroyed, which led to great resentment among the population and the establishment of a free voter initiative , the Citizens' Union.

In the local elections in 1969, the CDU no longer received a majority in the city council. The cinema operator Heribert Schlinker , established by the Citizens' Union, was elected as the new mayor .
