August Dissen (born July 21, 1875 in Kleinenberg ; † February 23, 1933 in Warburg ) was Mayor of Warburg from 1919 to 1933 .

Life

Family and education

He came from a long-established farming family in Kleinenberg near Lichtenau . After attending the primary school there, he went to a religious school in Holland . He began his administrative career at the District Office in Warburg and then moved to the Warburg mayor's office, where he was promoted to administrative secretary. In 1906 he married Josefine Maria Rehermann, daughter of the Warburg wheelwright Josef Rehermann. The marriage resulted in a daughter and three sons.

Public work

In 1907 he was elected mayor of Borgentreich . Just three years later he became mayor of Geseke , where he modernized the water supply and promoted the cement industry.

On July 10, 1919, he was elected mayor of Warburg out of 128 competitors and took office on October 1, 1919. His predecessor there, Dr. Paul Lipps died at the age of only 44. Dissent's achievements during his tenure included the issue of emergency money and the reorganization of the finances shattered by World War I and inflation , the development of new residential areas on the Hüffert and on Wiesenberg, the construction of the St. Petri Hospital 1923-26, the construction of the Higher daughter school on the Hüffert and Hüffertkampfbahn 1927 and the regulation of the Diemel 1926–1930 including the construction of new bridges.

In 1931 he was re-elected for 12 years, but died on February 23, 1933. The obituary of the Warburger Kreisblatt read five days later: His works will endure for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren after decades. But we can best remember the deserving dead if we continue in his spirit the works completed under his aegis. The official business was then initially continued by the councilor Wiegand. In the following city council election on March 12, 1933, the NSDAP in Warburg only got 13% with 418 votes. Nevertheless, on July 27, 1933, District Administrator Joseph von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim appointed SA Storm Leader Otto Schlötel from Minden as the new mayor.
