Joseph von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim (born February 20, 1878 in Helmern ; † November 30, 1949 there ) was a German district administrator .

Origin and family

Joseph von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim was born as the son of the married couple Raban Ernst Aloys Freiherr Spiegel von und zu Peckelsheim (District Administrator of the Warburg district from 1869 to 1906) and Countess Maria von Mengersen and belonged to the Westphalian noble family von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim . His grandparents were District Administrator Adolf von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim and Auguste von Amelunxen . Joseph was married to Gertrud von Amelunxen . The daughters Aloysia Jenny Maria Wilhelmine (* 1910), married to Karl Wilhelm Clemens Joseph Westphalen zu Fürstenberg, and Regina (* 1926), married to Manfred von Landsberg-Velen, come from the marriage . As a result of the marriage, the entire estate passed to the von Landsberg-Velen family. Raban von Westphalen (political scientist and university professor) is a grandson of Joseph von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim.

Professional background

After the Abitur examination at the Hüffertgymnasium Warburg , Joseph studied law at the Universities of Göttingen , Munich and Münster and on June 5, 1903 he became a trainee lawyer at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm . Two years later he worked as a government trainee with the Minden district government . In February 1906 he moved to the Warburg district office and was the district administrator for his seriously ill father until June 11th. From September 1906 he was employed by the Münster district government . On June 28, 1907, he was dismissed from civil service on application - without an assessor examination - in order to devote himself to the management of his manor. From 1906 to 1929 he was a member of the Warburg district assembly and from 1908 to spring 1933 an official member of the Peckelsheim office . For a short time (October – November 1919) and (September / October 1929) he was again deputy district administrator in Warburg. With effect from November 1, 1933, he was definitively appointed district administrator of the Warburg district and remained in office until September 30, 1943. Before 1933 Joseph was non-party and joined the NSDAP on April 1, 1933 . From April 1933 to April 1937 he was a member of the National Socialist Motor Vehicle Corps and from July 1, 1935 a supporting member of the SS .
