The Hüffertgymnasium is a public high school in the East Westphalian city of Warburg in the Höxter district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The school building is located in the city of Hüffert and was named after him.

history

Forerunner of the school and foundation

The story of today's Hüffertgymnasium, a high school for boys and girls, began as a privately financed, middle school for girls. In the middle of the 19th century, the population of Warburg sought to establish a secondary school for girls. Since the state did not provide any funds for this, a private foundation took over large parts of the financing. The school was administered by the Catholic Women's Order of the Poor School Sisters . Due to the lack of financial support from the state, the school had to close on October 15, 1881.

In 1882, however, the school was set up as a private school under the direction of the teacher Maria Plassmann. On July 7, 1907, the Association of Catholic Girls' Schools in Warburg was recognized as the sponsor of the school .

The old building of the Hüffertgymnasium Warburg

In 1914 and 1918 the Magistrate of the City of Warburg tried again to win over the poor school sisters to run the school; however, both applications were rejected. On September 27, 1919, after a third application, approval was granted. Since the school building initially used in the Neustadt turned out to be too small, a larger school building was planned on the Hüffert. This was inaugurated on October 18, 1927 and is still partially used as a classroom today.

After 1949

At the beginning of the 1950s it became apparent that the spatial capacities were again insufficient. In August 1951, work began on expanding the school building. In 1954 an Abitur examination was held for the first time.

When the school was attended by 543 students in 1971/72, the space was again insufficient.

Due to financial deficiencies, the sponsorship was transferred to the Warburg district . After the district was incorporated into the newly founded Höxter district in 1975 as part of the North Rhine-Westphalian regional reform , it took over the sponsorship. A little later the construction of the new school started.

History from 1978

The new building of the Hüffertgymnasium, built in 1978

On February 10, 1978 the new building of the Hüffertgymnasium was inaugurated. A day later, the school held an open house .

At the beginning of 1979 the sponsorship of the school was transferred from the Höxter district to the sponsorship of the city of Warburg. The name of the school was changed to Hüffertgymnasium Warburg - municipal high school for girls and boys , which the school still carries today.

In October 2005, 1,047 students attended the Hüffertgymnasium (595 girls and 452 boys), the school had 76 teachers, including trainees. The highest number of students was reached in 2010 with 1155 students.

In 2010, the teaching units were switched to a 60-minute cycle . In August 2010, a cafeteria was set up for the 2010/11 school year that offers hot lunches on weekdays.

Compared to the Gymnasium Marianum , it is now the larger of the two Warburg high schools with around 670 students.

location

The new and old buildings of the Hüffertgymnasium are located in Wachtelpfad 5 in the Auf der Hüffert corridor area . Opposite the two school buildings is the Pedagogical Center (PZ), in which, among other things, theatrical performances by the students are shown, as well as the building complex with the Warburg secondary school. The Hüffertsportplatz and the indoor swimming pool are not far away .

profile

In 2010 the hourly frequency was increased from 45 minutes to 60 minutes.

The Hüffertgymnasium cooperates in the secondary level II with the Gymnasium Marianum , the other high school in Warburg, whose building at the Brüderkirchhof is one kilometer away and can be reached in about ten minutes on foot.

In the upper secondary level, graduates of the secondary level I with a Q-mark from Hauptschule, Realschule and secondary schools have the option of transitioning to the Hüffertgymnasium.
