The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) , (in German-speaking countries also known as the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum ) is an annual meeting of actors from the economy of different countries, which is organized by the Russian government and the Roscongress Foundation . The participating politicians, economists, CEOs of large to medium-sized national and international companies, as well as other business experts from an average of more than 120 countries, come together in St. Petersburg to collaborate .

In addition to maintaining relationships there, over a hundred individual events, in addition to the conclusion of contracts and agreements , focus on topics related to the global economy .

Which since its inception in 1997 , launched Forum is since 2005 under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation.

The St. Petersburg Economic Forum 2017, which was organized with an event budget of 32 million euros and focused on the topics of digitization , climate change and mobility , was attended by 5,000 participants. Prominent guests in 2017 were Narendra Modi and Christian Kern .

The annual participant from the German side is the Eastern Committee of German Business . German politicians and managers from DAX companies are also returning visitors. In 2018, China's Vice President Wang Qishan , Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and France's President Emmanuel Macron were guests at the Economic Forum.

From March 2020 it became known that the planned St. Petersburg Economic Forum 2020 in the time window June 3 to 6 will be canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic .
