The 2002 Regal Scottish Masters was a snooker tournament as part of the 2002/03 Snooker Main Tour . The invitation tournament was held from September 24th to 29th at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow , Scotland . It was the 21st and final edition of the tournament. The following year, a tobacco advertising ban went into effect in the UK and the cigarette maker Regal, which had sponsored the tournament for the past 14 years, was no longer available.
For the tenth time in a row a Scot was in the Scottish Masters final. It was a new edition of the final from the previous year in the same place. The home player John Higgins could not defend his title, instead the world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan from England won 9: 4.

final
For the third time in five years, the final was Ronnie O'Sullivan versus John Higgins . In the other two years, too, one of the two was in the final. In 1998 O'Sullivan won his first title against Higgins, the previous year the Scot had taken revenge. It was the fourth Scottish Masters final for both of them. Last year, the encounter had been mixed, this time O'Sullivan quickly took the lead 3-0 and 5-1, mostly with medium-high breaks deciding the frames. Until the break between the sessions, however, Higgins was able to shorten it to 3: 5 and in the evening he even made the connection to 4: 5. But it was his last frame gain. O'Sullivan then took 4 frames in a row and won the final 9: 4. The Englishman caught up with the record winners Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry , all three of whom had won the Scottish Masters three times.
