The 1991 Mercantile Credit Classic was a 1990/91 season snooker tournament held at the Bournemouth Internation Center from January 1-12. For the fourth time in a row, the hotel was the venue. Overall, the tournament took place for the eleventh time.
Steve James had a big surprise with his win last year, he couldn't build on that and he already lost his first game. With Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White , two players from the narrow group of favorites contested the final this time. But not Hendry, who stormed to the top of the world rankings and recently won four ranking tournaments in a row, prevailed, but Jimmy White won clearly 10: 4 and thus took revenge for the defeat in the final of the last World Cup . It was White's second Classic win after 1986 , while Hendry never won the tournament.
Main tournament
The top 32 of the world rankings were set for the main tournament. The players from 33rd place played three qualifying rounds, from which a further 32 players emerged, who were then drawn into the top 32. The shortened format from the previous year with the best-of-19 final was retained this year.
