The Lada Classic 1982 was a professional invitational tournament as part of the Snooker - 1981-82 season . It was played as the first tournament in 1982 at Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham , England . In the final, Terry Griffiths from Welsh defeated the reigning world champion and defending champion Steve Davis from England 9: 8. Davis played on January 11 in the fifth frame of his quarter-final match against John Spencer , the first official maximum break in a professional tournament, which additionally in television was transmitted.

Steve Davis started the final with a break of 96, but Terry Griffiths equalized thanks to a break of 55. After Griffiths took a 2-1 lead, Davis was able to turn the game to 2: 3.
