final

Although Steve Davis was five professional years less on the tour and 10 years younger, it was the first tournament final on the Snooker Main Tour for Canadian Bill Werbeniuk . The 1981 world champion was a clear favorite, but Werbeniuk initially kept the final open. The Canadian won the first frame and after Davis won two frames also the fourth frame to make it 2-2. Davis was now able to increase to 4-2, but Werbeniuk managed to equalize. After another lead, Werbeniuk equalized for the third time and after 10 of 17 frames the score was 5: 5. But Davis won the next four frames to 9: 5 victory through numerous small breaks, it was the second tournament victory for the Englishman.
