The Río Virú is a 97 km long tributary of the Pacific Ocean in northwestern Peru in the La Libertad region .

River course

The Río Virú rises in the Peruvian Western Cordillera , 8 km south of Quiruvilca at an altitude of about 3950  m . It flows mainly in a south-westerly direction through the mountains. At river kilometer 44, the Catarata de Condornada waterfall is located on the course of the river. The Río Virú flows through the coastal plain for the last 20 kilometers. It passes the small town of Virú and finally flows 45 km south-southeast of Trujillo into the Pacific.

Catchment area

The 2805 km² catchment area borders on that of the Río Moche in the north, that of the Río Chao in the south and that of the Río Santa in the east .
