The Huaso district is located in the Julcán Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was established on June 19, 1990. It has an area of 438 km². The 2017 census counted 6,160 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4922, in 2007 it was 6423. The district administration is located in the 3050 m high village of Huaso with 340 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huaso is located 21 km southeast of the provincial capital Julcán .
Geographical location
The Huaso district is located in the south in the Julcán province. The district is bounded in the north and northwest by the rivers Río Cautahuan, Río Vega and Río Virú (in the upper reaches of the Río Huacapongo) and drained to the west.
The Huaso district borders in the southwest and in the west on the districts Chao and Virú ( province Virú ), in the north on the districts Carabamba , Julcán and Calamarca in the east and in the south on the district Santiago de Chuco ( province Santiago de Chuco ).
