The district of Chepén is located in the Chepén province of the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 287.34 km². At the 2017 census, 45,733 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 39,778, in 2007 45,639. The administrative seat is the provincial capital Chepén . There are several archaeological sites in the district.
Geographical location
The district of Chepén is located in the southeast of the province of Chepén between the rivers of Río Chamán in the north and Río Jequetepeque in the south. It has an approximately circular shape with a diameter of about 20 km. The district is about halfway between the cities of Trujillo (100 km south-southeast) and Chiclayo (70 km northwest). The district extends over the arid landscape of the coastal desert in northwestern Peru and the adjoining foothills of the Peruvian western cordillera . The district is 17 km from the Pacific coast . Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the lowlands.
The district of Chepén borders in the north on the district Pacanga , in the northeast on the province San Miguel and in the southeast on the province Contumazá , both in the region Cajamarca , in the southwest on the district Guadalupe ( province Pacasmayo ) and in the far west on the district Pueblo Nuevo .
