The Pacanga district is located in the Chepén province of the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The district founded on December 5, 1940 has an area of ​​583.93 km². At the 2017 census, 21,056 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 10,585, in 2007 17,976. The administrative center is the small town of Pacanga . The largest city in the district is Pacanguilla . Another small town in the district is San José de Moro .

Geographical location

The Pacanga district is located in the central north of the Chepén province. It has an extension in SE-NW and SW-NE direction of approximately 25 km each. The foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise in the northeast . Much of the district lies in the coastal plain at an altitude of about 100  m . In the north and in the mountains there is desert vegetation. Otherwise irrigated agriculture is used. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) leads from the provincial capital Chepén past San José de Moro and Pacanguilla to Chiclayo in the northwest .

The course of the Río Chamán forms the southern boundary of the district. In the south, the Pacanga district borders on the Chepén district , and in the southwest on the Pueblo Nuevo district . To the north, the Pacanga district is bordered by the Chiclayo , Saña , Cayaltí and Nueva Arica districts (all in the Chiclayo province of the Lambayeque region ) and to the east by the Nanchoc district (in the San Miguel province of the Cajamarca region ).
