The Magdalena de Cao district is located in the Ascope Province in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The 158.96 km² district had 2,463 inhabitants at the 2017 census. In 1993 the population was 2318, in 2007 2884. The administrative seat is the 28  m high town Magdalena de Cao with 1333 inhabitants (as of 2017). The district is located on the Pacific coast north of the Chicama River . It has an approximately 17.5 km long coastline. In the northwest there is desert vegetation. Otherwise irrigated agriculture is used.

Geographical location

The Magdalena de Cao district is located in the central west of the Ascope province. It borders in the northwest on the district of Rázuri , in the northeast on the districts of Paiján and Chocope and in the southeast, across the Río Chicama, on the district of Santiago de Cao .
