6 Hours of Fuji 2019
The eighth 6-hour race of Fuji , also called 6 Hours of Fuji , took place on October 6, 2019 at Fuji International Speedway and was the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship 2019/20 .
Before the race
With one vehicle less than Silverstone on the entry list, 30 vehicles competed in Fuji. The best starting position in the LMGTE Pro class was achieved by the Porsche works drivers, Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz . In the amateur class, the number 90 Aston Martin Vantage AMR, entered by TF Sport, was at the top of its class. The original best time was secured by the Porsche, number 57, from Team Project 1. However, due to homologation problems with the car's quick release system, all times were canceled so that the Porsche had to start the race from the end of the field.
Toyota secured a double pole in the LMP1 class compared to the race at Silverstone, despite the reduced performance. The Toyota TS050 Hybrid with the number 8 placed in front of the sister vehicle with the number 7, the best privately used LMP1 prototype was the Rebellion R13 from Rebellion Racing. In the LMP2 class, the Oreca 07, number 22, from United Autosports started in the best position.
The race
Shortly after the start of the race, the Rebellion driver Bruno Senna was able to overtake Kamui Kobayashi's Toyota TS050 Hybrid , the two vehicles dueled until the GT vehicles were due to be lapped, while Kobayashi was able to prevail. After an hour and a half it started to rain, which caused some of the vehicles to spin, but everyone was able to continue driving.
The first three vehicles crossed the finish line in the same order as they started. Buemi, Nakajima and Hartley won the race in front of the sister vehicles of Conway, Kobayashi and López, behind the Rebellion. In the LMP2 class, van Eerd, van der Garde and de Vries won the Oreca 07 from Racing Team Nederland by one lap ahead of the identical Oreca from Jackie Chan DC Racing. In the GT classes there was a double victory for the Aston Martin Vantage AMR. Factory drivers Thiim and Sørensen were successful in the LMGTE Pro classification, while Yoluc, Eastwood and Adam from TF Sport won the amateur classification.
The Oreca 07 with the number 38 used by Jota Sport was subsequently disqualified because it failed to pass a technical check after the race.
