Mark Patterson
Mark Patterson (born December 16, 1951 in Port Elizabeth ) is an American entrepreneur and racing car driver of South African descent.
Entrepreneur
Mark Patterson went to school in his native South Africa. He attended St. Andrew's College in Grahamstown and then studied law and business administration at Stellenbosch University near Cape Town . He also trained at the Stern School of Business at New York University . After completing his training, he worked in the US financial sector .
Patterson has been a co-owner of MatlinPatterson Global Advisers hedge fund since 2002 , which he founded that same year. The fund is an offshoot of Credit Suisse First Boston , the investment bank of Credit Suisse . The fund holds stakes in a variety of companies, including Huntsman Corporation , Standard Pacific Homes , ATA Airlines and Arrow Air .
Racing career
Mark Patterson began with motorsport in 2003. The now wealthy US-American had little trouble financing his racing career with his own money and ran the sport as a men's driver . When he first competed in the Barber Dodge Pro Series in 2003 , he was 52 years old; a relatively old age for a racing debutante. In 2005 he began his regular engagements in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series . After finishing third in the 2005 Watkins Glen 250 mile race , he achieved a surprising second place overall in the Daytona 24 Hours of 2006 . Partners in the Riley Mk.XI reported by Michael Shank Racing were Oswaldo Negri , AJ Allmendinger and Justin Wilson .
It also celebrated its first race win in the 9-hour race in Miller and the second in the 250-mile race in New Jersey in 2008 .
In the 2010s he competed in the European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship . On his Le Mans debut in 2013 , at the age of 61½, he was one of the oldest debutants in the long history of this 24-hour race . He finished tenth overall in the LMP2 classification of the 2015 European Le Mans Series .
