Location of the Brussels-Capital District in the Province -

The district of Brussels-Capital ( French Arrondissement administratif de Bruxelles-Capitale , Dutch Arrondissement Brussel-Hoofdstad ) is the only district in the bilingual Brussels Capital Region in Belgium . The district includes the 19 bilingual parishes. The two official languages ​​French and Dutch have equal rights. The majority of the inhabitants are French-speaking.

The district was created in 1963 when the language borders in Belgium were determined at that time. The previous Brussels district was dissolved. In 1995, the bilingual, provincial Brussels-Capital Region was formed, to which the Brussels-Capital District has been the only district since then. The district has its headquarters at rue des Colonies  56, 1000 Bruxelles and Koloniënstraat  56, 1000 Brussels.

The head of the district was a governor. This office was abolished with effect from July 1, 2014. A high bailiff now acts in his place .
