The FIA World Endurance Championship 2019/20 (officially from 2019 to 2020 FIA World Endurance Championship ) is the eighth season of FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The season consists of eight races. It began on September 1, 2019 in Silverstone and is expected to end in as-Sachir on November 21, 2020 .

championship

The season of the endurance world championship 2019/20 will take place in the LMGTE Pro-Class without the works from BMW . After only one year in the Gran Turismo class, BMW ended its commitment again. Ford's works were also discontinued at the end of the previous season.

Rule changes

Some rules have been adjusted for the 2019/20 season.

Point system

In Le Mans, as before the 2018/19 super season, double points will be awarded (50,36,30,24,20,16,12,8,4,2). For the 8-hour race in Bahrain and the 1000-mile race in Sebring, points are awarded with a multiplier of 1.5 (38,27,23,18,15,12,9,6,3,2).

Equivalence of Technology

In order to increase the chances of the private teams in the LMP1 class to win a race, some changes were made to the regulations. As a result, the two Toyota factories have to load 14 kg and have a total weight of 932 kg. In addition, the hybrid prototypes lose their stint advantage over the LMP1 prototypes with a combustion engine, as well as one second longer refueling time during a pit stop. In addition, vehicles are given additional weights based on championship points to ensure equal opportunities.

Racing calendar

The 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship includes eight races. There are some changes to the preseason calendar. The race in Bahrain is back on the calendar and the race distances have been adjusted. The races in Fuji and Shanghai will each take place a week earlier to avoid clashes with the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix and the Macau Grand Prix .

The 6-hour race in Sao Paulo was originally supposed to return to the calendar and take place on February 1, 2020, but it was canceled after problems with the organizer and replaced by the 6-hour race in Austin on February 23.

The Sebring 1000 mile race planned for March 20 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . A modified calendar was published on April 3rd. This includes replacement dates for Spa and Le Mans, as well as another 8-hour race from Bahrain as a replacement for the race in Sebring.
