Rule changes

Supplies the LMH class with standard tires: Michelin

For the 2021 season, a new vehicle class was announced for the first time since the world championship began. The "Le Mans Hypercar" ( LMH for short ) class is to replace the LMP1 class from the 2022 season. For the 2021 season, however, LMP1 prototypes can still participate. Vehicles used in the LMH class must also bear the name of an automobile brand. A staff limit has also been set in the LMH class: Each team may only provide 40 operational employees if the vehicle does not have a hybrid drive. For vehicles with hybrid drive, the limit has been increased to 43 employees.

The LMP2 class remains, the Gibson engines of the prototypes are throttled by 40 HP and thus have an output of 540 HP.

For the LMH & LMP2 classes it was determined that the vehicles will drive with standard tires. The French tire manufacturer Michelin was presented as the exclusive tire supplier for the LMH class . The standard tires for the LMP2 class are provided by Goodyear .

Racing calendar

The 2020/21 FIA World Endurance Championship originally includes eight races. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the 2019/20 season was extended until November 2020 due to postponements. It was therefore decided to return to the annual calendar from 2021. A new calendar has not yet been announced (as of April 2020).
