Ernesto Vieira
Ernesto Vieira , also known as Augusto Ferreira Ernesto Vieira , (born May 24, 1848 in Lisbon , † April 26, 1915 ibid) was a Portuguese music writer and piano teacher.
Life
The autodidact Vieira came from a poor background. At the age of 12 he began his musical training at the Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon, where he received lessons in flute playing and harmony. There he also learned to play the piano and the oboe. He later worked as a piano teacher at the Academia de Amadores de Música there. He participated in various orchestras in theater and opera performances.
He edited the two-volume Portuguese music dictionary Diccionario biographico de musicos portuguezes (Lisbon 1900). This contains numerous musician biographies that are still missing in the two-volume standard work Joaquim de Vasconcelos ' Os músicos portuguezes (Porto, 1870). He also wrote articles for music magazines such as Gazeta Musical , Eco Musical or Arte Musical as a staff member . Vieira also published some didactic works. He owned a collection of manuscripts of Portuguese music from the 17th to 19th centuries, which are kept in the Biblioteca Nacional in Lisbon.
