Simon Trummer (born June 8, 1989 in Frutigen ) is a Swiss automobile racing driver . He competed in the GP2 series from 2012 to 2015 . In 2014 and 2015 Trummer competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Career

Trummer began his motorsport career in karting in 1999 , where he was active until 2007. Among other things, he was runner-up in the Swiss Junior Kart Championship in 2003. After 2006 in the Formula Lista Junior his first experience in Formula racing had made and finished the season in 18th place, he went in 2007 in the Swiss Formula Renault at the start and finished seventh overall. In 2008 Trummer stayed in the Swiss Formula Renault. He won two races and was runner-up behind Christopher Zanella . He also competed in six Italian Formula Renault races.

After the Swiss competed in two international Formula Master races for the Iris Project in 2008 , he received a contract with the racing team for the 2009 season . With a third place as the best result, he finished 11th in the championship at the end of the season. In 2010 , Trummer started for Jenzer Motorsport in the new GP3 series . After an accident at Hockenheim in which he sustained a back injury with one broken and three broken vertebrae, he had to take a break from racing. In contrast to his teammates Nico Müller and Pål Varhaug , Trummer did not win a race and only scored points in two races. At the end of the season he finished 25th overall. In 2011 Trummer stayed in the GP3 series and started for MW Arden . While his teammates Mitch Evans and Lewis Williamson each won a race, fourth place was his best place. He finished the championship in 18th place. After the season he took part in the 2011 GP2 Final for Arden and finished 21st.

In 2012 , Trummer started for Arden International in the GP2 series . While his team-mate Luiz Razia was runner-up, Trummer reached 23rd place in the drivers' standings with a seventh place as the best result. For the 2013 season, Trummer moved to Rapax within the GP2 series . At the season opener in Sepang , Trummer scored points in both races and with a sixth place in the sprint race, his best GP2 result to date. In the main race at the Hungaroring , he achieved another sixth place. He finished the season in 21st place overall with 20 points, while his teammate Stefano Coletti had reached fifth place with 135 points. In 2014 , Trummer completed another GP2 season for Rapax. At the season opener in as-Sachir , Trummer came seventh from the pit lane with a different strategy. In the sprint race that followed, he achieved his first podium finish in GP2 with a second place. Trummer improved to 17th place in the overall ranking. In addition, Trummer made his debut for Lotus in 2014 in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and took part in a race.

In 2015 Trummer switched to the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship as a regular driver. He was given a cockpit with the ByKolles team , which in the previous year had used the name Lotus. With three eighth places as the best results, he was 15th in the world championship. Moreover, he returned for two race weekends for Hilmer Motorsport in the 2015 GP2 Series season back.
