Lewis Williamson (born November 11, 1989 in Dundee , Scotland ) is a British racing driver . He started in the GP3 series from 2011 to 2013 .

Career

Williamson won various karting titles from 1998 to 2007 . In 2008 he made his debut in formula racing and took part in the winter series of the British and Portuguese Formula Renault . In 2009 he started for CRS Racing in the British Formula Renault and finished tenth. In 2010 Williamson moved to Manor . He finished the season in second place behind Tom Blomqvist and took pole position five times in 19 races , also won five times and achieved four fastest laps . On October 14th and 15th, 2010 Williamson tested a GP3 -Boldien from Atech CRS Grand Prix in Estoril and achieved the best time in the afternoon with 1: 31.432 and 1: 31.230 minutes on both days. At the end of the year, he received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for his achievements .

In 2011 Williamson competed for MW Arden in the GP3 series. After four races without any points, he achieved his first podium finish in this racing series with a second place. His first GP3 ​​victory followed three races later. He finished the season on the eighth championship course and prevailed within the team with 31 to 29 points against Mitch Evans . He also recorded for ISR at two race weekends of the Formula Renault 3.5 part. He finished the championship with no points in 33rd place. After the season, Williamson completed his first Formula 1 test for McLaren . In 2012 Williamson started for Arden Caterham in the Formula Renault 3.5 and was included in the Red Bull funding program. After missing points on the first three race weekends, Red Bull stopped funding and he lost his cockpit. His successor António Félix da Costa achieved fourth place overall and several victories. Williamson then returned to the GP3 series. There he played the second half of the season for Status Grand Prix . With a fifth place as the best result, he was 17th. In 2013 , Williamson received a GP3 cockpit at Bamboo Engineering . Although, unlike his team-mate Melville McKee , he remained without a win, he scored the most points for the team and ended the season in twelfth place in the drivers' standings. Third place was his best individual result.
