Christopher Zanella (born October 21, 1989 in Waldshut , Germany ) is a Swiss automobile racing driver . He started in the Formula Renault 3.5 in 2013 .

Career

At the age of 13, Zanella began his motorsport career in karting in 2003 , in which he was active until 2007. In 2006 he made his debut in formula racing and competed in the Formula Lista junior . In 2007 he started four races in the Swiss Formula Renault . In 2008 Zanella stayed in the Swiss Formula Renault and won the championship title of this series before his compatriot Simon Trummer . He also took part in four races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . In 2009 he moved to Motopark Academy in the Formula 3 Euro Series . His best result was a second place in the last race of the season at the Hockenheimring . In the overall ranking he finished 13th overall.

In 2010 Zanella moved to JD Motorsport in the Italian Formula 3 championship . With a second place at the season opener as the best result, he finished sixth overall at the end of the season. He also competed for Motopark Academy as a guest starter for three and as a driver for a racing weekend in the 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series season . In the overall standings he was 15th. In 2011 , Zanella took part in the FIA Formula 2 Championship . With two wins, a total of seven podium finishes and 193 points, he was runner- up behind Mirko Bortolotti , who had scored 316 points. In 2012 , Zanella completed another Formula 2 season. He won two more races and was on the podium seven times. In the overall ranking he fell back to third place compared to the previous year.

After Formula 2 was discontinued at the end of the 2012 season, Zanella switched to Formula Renault 3.5 at ISR Racing in 2013 . He started the season with a third place in Monza . After scoring points again in the following two races, he remained without points for the rest of the season. He finished the season in 16th place. Internally, he lost to Sergei Sirotkin with 25 to 61 points .

After a break of two years, Zanella continued his motorsport career in 2016 in the ADAC GT Masters with the Porsche team from Schütz-Motorsport. It was first used in the Porsche GT3 R in Oschersleben in mid-April. His team partner was last year's Formula 4 overall winner Marvin Dienst. In 2017, Zanella switched to the cockpit of a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 at HB Racing in the ADAC GT Masters.
