Career

Frey began her motorsport career in 1998 in karting , which she practiced until 2004. She also made her formula racing debut in the Renault Speed Trophy of the Swiss Formula Renault in 2004 . In 2005, her main focus was on the Swiss Formula Renault, in which she finished third overall with two victories. She also competed in three German Formula Renault races. In 2006 she moved to the Swiss racing team Jenzer Motorsport and started with moderate success both in the Italian Formula Renault, in which she finished 18th overall, and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , in which she was 21st overall.

In 2007 she stayed with Jenzer Motorsport and switched to the International Formula Master . With a fifth place as the best result, she finished 17th in the overall ranking at the end of the season. In the second race in Pau , she retired while on course for the podium due to an engine failure. In the winter of 2007/2008 , she did two rookie races in the A1GP series.

In 2008 she switched to van Amersfoort Racing in the German Formula 3 Cup . Frey managed two placements in the points and was 14th overall. In 2009 Frey started her second season in the German Formula 3 Cup with Jo Zeller Racing . Compared to the previous year, Frey improved significantly and achieved her first podium finish in this racing series in the first race. After finishing second in the first race at the Nürburgring , she won the second race in the Eifel. This made her the first woman to win a race in the German Formula 3 Cup. Despite her good performance, Jo Zeller Racing split up due to budget problems, which meant that she did not participate in the last four race weekends. In the overall ranking she finished 7th overall.

In 2010 Frey left formula racing and switched to GT racing. For Matech Competition , the FIA GT1 World Championship and the Le Mans Series competed on one race weekend each . She also took part in the Le Mans 24-hour race for Matech Competition . In 2011 Frey competed in the DTM for Team Phoenix . While her team-mate Martin Tomczyk won the championship, a twelfth place was her best result and she remained without points. In contrast to Frey, all of her Audi brand colleagues achieved at least one podium placement. In the 2012 DTM season , Frey competes in an Audi A5 DTM for Abt Sportsline . At the penultimate race of the season in Valencia , Frey managed to achieve her first top 10 and points in the DTM with a seventh place. In the overall ranking she improved to 19th place overall. For the 2013 DTM season , Audi did not take Frey into account when awarding the cockpit.

In 2013 Rahel Frey started in the ADAC GT Masters for Prosperia C. Abt Racing , her teammates were Markus Winkelhock and Christopher Haase . On October 27, 2013, she won the 10th race of the season of the Audi R8 LMS Cup in China , making her the first woman to win a race in this series.

From 2014 to 2017 Frey remained loyal to GT racing and started in the following racing series:

  • 2014: ADAC GT Masters, Blancpain Endurance Series and Audi R8 LMS Cup (China)
  • 2015: ADAC GT Masters, Blancpain Endurance Series and Audi R8 LMS Cup (China).
