YACO Racing

YACO Racing is a German motorsport team from Plauen . The greatest motorsport success in 2008 was the driver's title in the ADAC Procar series .

history

YACO Racing was founded in 2001 by the former automobile athlete and GDR rally champion Uwe Geipel .

The team contested their first races in 2005 in the Toyota Yaris Cup and won the one-make cup championship with Philip Geipel .

From 2006 to 2011 and 2014, the team with drivers Mathias Schläppi , Philip Geipel and Charlie Geipel competed in the ADAC Procar series . Already in the first season Mathias Schläppi won the vice championship title with a Toyota Corolla T-Sport in the 1st division of the Procar series. In 2007 Charlie Geipel came third in the 2nd division on a Toyota Yaris . With the championship title in the 1st division in 2008 by Philip Geipel, YACO Racing achieved its best placement in this racing series. In the following year, Charlie Geipel was able to secure the vice-championship title for the team again with a Toyota Auris S2000 .

Parallel to the national Procar series, the racing team competed in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in 2006 and 2007 and in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) from 2006 to 2008 . The best ETCC result for the team in 2007 was Philip Geipel's seventh place overall.

In 2012 YACO Racing switched to GT motorsport for the ADAC GT Masters . In the first season , the team started in the championship with two Chevrolet Camaro GT3s . In 2013 the team switched to an Audi R8 LMS ultra . With the 2014 season , Philip Geipel and Rahel Frey shared the racing car cockpit.

The team achieved their first victory in the racing series in 2015 at the first run at the Hockenheimring . A year later, Geipel and Frey were able to repeat their success in an Audi R8 LMS GT3 with victory in Zandvoort . That year, the team achieved its best result in the GT Masters with eighth place for Philip Geipel, ninth place for Rahel Frey and ninth place in the team classification.

In the following years 2017 and 2018 , the team competed again in the ADAC GT Masters - but could not repeat the success of the previous years. In the 2019 season, the team no longer competed in the racing series.
