Career

Natacha Gachnang drove in a kart for the first time at the age of five . Her father trained her together with her cousin Sébastien Buemi on a set course run by her grandfather's garage in Aigle . They drove their first kart race at the age of nine and, despite the rain, immediately attracted attention with impressive results. From then on, the two careers ran parallel across all series, first in karting through the mini-series to the juniors. Gachnang continued her career with a Swiss championship title, a third place in the French championship and a fifth place in the European championship in the same year. This was followed by a contract with Willi Weber , Michael Schumacher's manager , who had become aware of the Swiss woman.

In 2003, she moved to the single-seater racing and entered the German Formula BMW in. With a fourth place as the best result, she finished 19th overall. In 2004 her cousin Buemi also started in the German Formula BMW. While Buemi was third in the overall standings, Gachnang was twelfth in the championship. In 2005, the Swiss competed in her third season in the German Formula BMW. She switched to Josef Kaufmann Racing and became a teammate of Nico Hülkenberg and Nick de Bruijn . While Hülkenberg won eight races and was champion ahead of Buemi, de Bruijn and Gachnang could not win any races. The Swiss woman finished two races in second place and at the end of the season she finished sixth in the overall standings. While Buemi switched to the Formula 3 Euro Series with the support of Red Bull , Gachnang competed in the German Formula 3 Cup in 2006 . She finished one race on the podium and finished 13th overall. She also started four races in the Austrian Formula 3, in which she won one race. She also made her debut in the Formula 3 Euro Series and took part in eight races in the 2006 season. Starting for different teams, she finished 24th overall without any points.

In 2007 Gachnang left Europe to compete in the North American Star Mazda Series . She made it onto the podium in the second race and finished 15th in the drivers' standings with another podium finish. Despite having offers from the Atlantic Championship , she returned to Europe. In late summer 2007 she became a rookie driver in the A1 Grand Prix team in Switzerland . She did not go to racing. In 2008 she switched to the Spanish Formula 3 championship and competed for the Spanish team Campos Racing . With three second places as the best results, Gachnang took third place in the championship, leaving Adrián Campos jr. , one of her teammates who, unlike her, had a current car, behind her. Since she competed with an older racing car, her results were also included in the Copa de España . She won it with five wins.

In 2009 Gachnang switched to the revived Formula 2 , a racing series in which there were no teams and all drivers were looked after by the same organization. The Swiss only scored points in the penultimate race, when she finished seventh, and otherwise never made it into the top ten. So she finished 23rd in the overall ranking at the end of the season. She also competed in the Radical European Masters and finished fifth in the SR5 rating with one win. She also came in tenth in Formula Le Mans .

In 2010, Gachnang planned to compete in the first few seasons of the FIA GT1 World Championship for Matech Competition and the Auto GP for Charouz-Gravity Racing . However, she already had a serious accident in qualifying for the first race of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit . She drove into the lane at high speed. She was available after the accident and was flown to a hospital. In the accident, she suffered a double fracture of her right leg. She therefore had to take a break first and could not take part in the Auto GP season opener . At the 24 Hours of Le Mans she made her comeback for Matech Competition. She competed with Cyndie Allemann and Rahel Frey , but the team did not reach the goal due to technical problems. After that, she only competed in the FIA GT1 World Championship at one other race weekend. In addition, Gachnang contested three race weekends in the Auto GP and finished 21st overall.
