Matech Concepts was a Swiss automobile sport company founded in 2006 that exclusively developed racing vehicles of the Ford brand . Matech also used Gran Turismo vehicles in various championships under different names .
history
development
Matech Concepts was founded in 2006 by Martin Bartek. The company was based in Geneva , while the vehicles were assembled in a workshop in Mayen . From 2007, the GT3 version of the Ford GT supercar was built and used. According to the regulations of the GT1 group , Matech also developed a racing version of the Ford GT from 2009. During the development of the racing versions of the Ford GT, Matech was supported by Ford and equipped the cars with engines supplied by Ford partner Roush Yates.
In addition, Matech was the official dealer for the Ford Mustang FR500 of the GT3 group produced by Multimatic Motorsports . A planned racing version of the Ford GT according to the technical regulations of the LM GTE category was announced, but not implemented. After Bartek's death, Matech ended his activities. The unclear situation of the company led to delivery problems for spare parts. The German company Lambda Performance took over the further development and spare parts supply of the GT3 version of the Ford GT.
Motorsport history
From 2007 up to and including 2009, Matech used the self-developed Ford GT in the FIA GT3 European Championship . After the debut year as Matech Racing with up to three vehicles, the team won the team title of the European Championship as Matech GT Racing in 2008 and came third in the drivers' championship with Thomas Mutsch and Ian Khan. In 2009 the newly developed Ford GT was used in the FIA GT championship to test the vehicle for the coming year in racing.
With the introduction of the modified GT1 group regulations in 2010, Matech Competition took part in the newly announced FIA GT1 World Championship with two Ford GTs . The former Formula 1 -Pilot Enrique Bernoldi was initially presented as a driver, but changed before the first race Vitaphone Racing . Matech then started the season with the driver pairings Thomas Mutsch and Romain Grosjean as well as Natacha Gachnang and Cyndie Allemann . After Gachnang suffered a serious accident while qualifying for the race in Abu Dhabi , the second car was not used again until the next but one event. In the following races, different drivers shared the cockpit of this Ford GT. Mutsch became vice world champion after Grosjean left the team in the middle of the season and was signed to Richard Westbrook instead . Matech Competition reached fifth place in the team ranking.
At the 24-hour race of Le Mans in the same year, Matech Competition was able to compete with two Ford GTs - including an all-women team with Natacha Gachnang, Cyndie Allemann and Rahel Frey . Both Ford GTs didn't finish the race.
In 2011 Matech Competition did not undertake any racing activities and sold the GT1 versions of the Ford GT to Belgian Racing or Marc van der Straten, whose Marc VDS Racing Team had already fielded two Ford GTs in the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2010.
