Rule changes

technical changes

Dennis van de Laar in the Dallara F311 and the VW Power Engine with Push-to-Pass function at the Nürburgring 2012

From the 2012 season, the teams will have an exclusive engine from Volkswagen . The engine has 220 hp at normal power. With the push-to-pass button, a further 20 hp can be made available for a short time to make overtaking maneuvers easier. The push-to-pass function can be used around ten times per race by any driver whose vehicle is performing the function. The number of push-to-pass functions that are still possible is shown by a blue LED display on the roll bar of the vehicle. In addition, the chassis generation Dallara F308 has been approved. All vehicles with the so-called Volkswagen power engine were eligible for points in the cup classification. All other vehicles were rated in the ATS Formula 3 Trophy .

Sporting changes

During the season, three races were held per race weekend, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The starting grid for the first and third races was determined by the fastest and second fastest lap in qualifying. The starting grid for the second race was determined according to the reversed grid mode, i.e. H. the first eight drivers from the first race started in reverse order to the race result. The remaining positions corresponded to the classification from the first run.
