Mitchell Gilbert (born May 10, 1994 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia ) is an Australian automobile racing driver . He started in the GP3 series in 2014 and 2015 .

Career

Gilbert began his motorsport career in karting in 2002 , where he was active until 2010. In 2009 he was third in the CIK-FIA-KF2 World Cup . At the end of 2010 he made his debut in the winter series of the British Formula Renault for Fortec Motorsport in formula racing . While his teammate Alex Lynn took the title, Gilbert was tenth with a third place as the best result. He then competed in the British Formula Renault for Fortec Motorsport in 2011. His teammates Alex Lynn and Oliver Rowland finished the season in the first two positions, Gilbert finished fifth overall with one win. He also took part in three Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup events for Fortec Motorsport .

In 2012 Gilbert competed for performance racing in the German Formula 3 Cup . With two wins and a total of ten podium finishes, he finished fourth in the drivers' championship. For the 2013 season , Gilbert received a cockpit at Mücke Motorsport in the European Formula 3 championship . While his teammate Felix Rosenqvist was runner-up with 457 points, Gilbert reached 23rd overall with 10 points. In 2014 Gilbert switched to Fortec Motorsports within the European Formula 3 championship . After the sixth event, Gilbert lost his cockpit. With a fifth place as the best result, he was 16th overall at the end of the season. After the end of his Formula 3 involvement, Gilbert received a cockpit for five events at Trident Racing in the GP3 series . There two 14th places were his best results. Gilbert finished the season in 26th place in the drivers' standings. In addition, Gilbert completed two races in the Asian GT championship in GT racing. In 2015 Gilbert switched to Carlin within the GP3 series . He finished the season in 22nd place overall.
