Iwan Alexejewitsch Samarin , also Ivan Samarin ( Russian Иван Алексеевич Самарин , born September 7, 1988 in Moscow ) is a Russian racing car driver .

Career

Samarin's motorsport career began in karting in 1998 , where he was active until 2003. He gained his first formula racing experience in 2004 in Formula RUS, in which he finished his first season in fourth place overall. In 2005 he stayed in Formula RUS and improved to second place in the championship. In 2006 he switched to the Russian Formula 1600. In his first season he won the championship title with four victories, which he was able to defend in 2007. In 2008 Samarin concentrated on his involvement in the Russian Formula 3 and became runner-up in this series with four wins. He also took part in two races each of the Finnish and Northern European Formula 3 races.

After he was able to participate in 2009 due to lack of sponsorship at any racing series, he returned in 2010 back into motor racing and competed in the Formula 2 . At the end of the season, with a third place as the best result, he finished twelfth overall in this championship. In 2011 , Samarin took part in the second race weekend of the German Formula 3 Cup for Stromo's ArtLine .
