Bruno Gerussi

Bruno Gerussi (born May 7, 1928 in Medicine Hat , Alberta , † November 21, 1995 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) was a Canadian actor who became known for the lead role in the television series Beach Pirates .

Life

Gerussi was the son of an Italian immigrant. His family moved to New Westminster in his youth . He studied drama at the University of Alberta associated Banff School of Fine Arts in Banff and then played in various theater productions . In the William Shakespeare productions of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival , he played Romeo on the side of Julie Harris in Romeo and Juliet and Mark Antony in Julius Caesar . He also appeared on Broadway , where he played Ismael in a Moby Dick adaptation of Orson Welles . From the late 1950s he also worked for the CBC , where he initially took on guest roles in television series. In the 1960s it was called Gerussi! its own radio show on CBC Radio.

In 1972 he was cast for the lead role in the series Strandpiraten (The Beachcombers) , through which he became known not only in North America but also in Germany . It was produced until 1991, making it the longest-running television series in Canadian television history. The ZDF exuded from 1976 a total of 91 episodes of the series.

At the end of the 1970s, Gerussi also hosted the Celebrity Cooks cooking show , which featured prominent guests (including Bob Crane and David Letterman ). Due to its enormous popularity, it subsequently received an advertising contract from a manufacturer of kitchen appliances and became an advertising medium for the first commercially available microwave ovens .

In 1980 he hosted the Genie Awards . He himself was never awarded the genius, but he received a nomination in 1990. After his death from a heart attack in 1995, he was posthumously awarded the Earle Gray Award for Lifetime Achievement the following year .

Gerussi's wife Ida died in 1965. He was in a relationship with judge Nancy Morrison from 1972 until the time of his death. He had two children.
