Gary Thompson (born May 31, 1992 in Dublin ) is an Irish - Japanese racing driver .

Career

Thompson began his motorsport career in 2003 in karting , in which he remained active until 2008. In 2009 he switched to the single-seater racing and entered the Pacific for the Team E-Rain Formula BMW at. Thompson won his debut race and was on the podium in eleven races. At the end of the season he was defeated by 180 to 250 points Rio Haryanto in the championship and was second overall. He also made four guest starts in the European Formula BMW.

2010 Thompson moved to KCMG in the Japanese Formula 3 championship . Since he started in an older vehicle model, he was entitled to rank in the national class. In this he achieved two podium placements and he reached fifth place in this ranking. In 2011, Thompson stayed with KCMG in the national class of the Japanese Formula 3. He won this classification once and was on the podium six times in this class. In the classification he again took fifth position. In 2012, Thompson completed his third Japanese Formula 3 season for KCMG. He was tenth overall. In the national class he managed to win again and he moved up to fourth place in this class.

In 2013 Thompson initially returned to Europe and was given a cockpit in the European Formula 3 championship with Romeo Ferraris . He registered for this championship with a Japanese racing license. He participated in three events. He then took part in the Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS) for KCMG . He won a race and came second once. He finished fourth in the LMP2 drivers' championship. After the end of the season he resigned from racing.
