Dean Smith (born March 2, 1988 in Stourbridge ) is a British racing driver . He competed in the GP3 series in 2010 and 2011 .

Like most motorsport enthusiasts , Smith began his career in karting , where he was active from 2001 to 2003. In 2004 he moved into the single-seater racing and was 15th in the British Formula BMW . A season later, he won the championship title of this series before his compatriot Sam Bird . In 2006 he switched to the British Formula Renault and finished ninth overall at the end of the season. 2007 Smith stayed in this championship and was runner-up behind Duncan Tappy with three wins . He also took part in two races of the northern European Formula Renault.

In 2008 Smith competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finished the season in 17th place overall. He achieved the same overall placement in the Western European Formula Renault, although he only took part in individual races in this series. He also competed in two races in the British Formula 3 Championship . In 2009 Smith returned to the British Formula Renault and won the championship title on the third attempt with seven wins ahead of James Calado . He also took part in two races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. At the end of the year, Smith received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for his achievements .

In 2010 Smith competed for Carlin in the newly founded GP3 series and finished seventh overall with third place as the best result. In 2011 Smith moved to the Addax team and contested his second GP3 season. Having budget problems, he signed a race-to-race contract. With regular points placements in the first half of the season, he was given the opportunity to compete for the Addax team until the penultimate race weekend. For the end of the season he was replaced by Vittorio Ghirelli . With a second place as the best result, Smith finished the season as the best driver of his team in twelfth place in the drivers' championship.
